EPA 608 Type I · Recharging Techniques · Medium
How should a capillary-tube household refrigerator be recharged?
Answer: A. Weigh in the exact charge on the nameplate.
- AWeigh in the exact charge on the nameplate.✓ Correct
- BCharge until the suction line sweats.
- CCharge to 50 psig on the low side.
- DCharge until the sight glass clears.
Why A is right
Small appliances are critically charged: a few ounces too much or too little changes their performance. Use a scale to weigh in the nameplate charge; most have no sight glass, and pressure alone doesn't show the right charge.
